Download in PDF format

Graduate assistantships are available for as many as five students admitted into the Learning Sciences program in the Educational Psychology department at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The positions will be for new doctoral students, and they are anticipated to provide support for up to four years. Students will have the opportunity to work on one of the two interdisciplinary projects funded by the National Science Foundation. The projects are funded by NSF’s Intra-agency Educational Research (IERI) Initiative and the National Science, technology, engineering and mathematics education Digital Library (NSDL) initiative, and are directed by Dr. Sadhana Puntambekar. Both projects explore issues relating to students learning from multiple (digital) texts in inquiry-based science classes in middle schools, and aim to understand students’ changing representations as well as factors in the classroom context that enable the integration of text and hands-on activities. More information on the projects along with a list of representative publications can be found at http://www.compassproject.net/sadhana/index.htm. Students with a background in psychology, computer science, cognitive and learning sciences or physics education are especially encouraged to apply.

Assistantships will be at the 33% level (resulting in an average work commitment of about 13 hours per week). The positions also include tuition remission and a choice of health insurance coverage.

The Learning Sciences program at UW Madison is an interdisciplinary program with faculty research interests in both applied and basic research and students with diverse backgrounds.
